Cyclone Tauktae killed 122 in India; Gujarat worst affected

Cyclone Tauktae has left 122 people dead so far, including 37 on Barge P-305 which sank 35 miles off Mumbai coast, reported Times of India.

More than 2.6 lakh people have been evacuated from six affected states and kept at shelter camps, reported TOI quoting an assessment by the disaster management division of the home ministry .

As per the report, Gujarat has been the worst affected accounting for 47 deaths and evacuation of 2.4 lakh people. At some places, winds uprooted trees, damaged government buildings, roads and electricity poles. In Gujrat, the state administration has restored 98 Covid hospitals out of 130 affected, reported TOI.

The cyclone made landfall in several states earlier this week with wind speeds of up to 160km/h (100mph).
