Farmers’ awareness camp held at Bajalta

Jammu, Sep 29: To promote Horticulture in Kandi areas of Jammu district, the Department of Horticulture today organized one day Farmers’ Awareness Camp, here at Bajalta area of Block Nagrota.

Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, S. Sarabjit Singh, District Level-Subject Matter Specialist (Pomology), Sandeep Gupta, Horticulture Development Officer, Dansal, Sandeep Sharma, BDC Chairman, Block Nagrota, Rehmat Ali, Corporator Sidhra, Mumtaz besides farmers/ Fruit growers in large number participated in the camp.

Five Hundred Families of the area were provided 1500 fruit plants at 90% subsidy under Backyard Horticulture Programme. All the SOPs for COVID-19 were followed and people have imparted awareness regarding COVID-19 Pandemic.

The District Horticulture Officer advised the farmers/ fruit growers to keep close liaison with the field functionaries of the department to take maximum benefits available under Centrally Sponsored Schemes/ State Sector Schemes. He directed the concerned Horticulture Development Officer to organize more such camps in other areas also so that a maximum number of farmers are benefited. He stated that this Backyard Horticulture Scheme has got three important motives of promoting greenery in the surrounding, to create pollution free atmosphere and create awareness among people regarding atmospheric pollution and last but not the least to promote production of organic pesticides free fruit for home consumption.

The Subject Matter Specialist, while interacting with the participants, briefed them about the different schemes/ Programs presently under implementation in the district. The BDC Chairmen thanked the department for organizing such a beneficial programme and urged them to organize more such camps in future.
