Jammu, April 19: Curfew in Delhi will be imposed from tonight 10 pm till next Monday to curtail the number of Covid-19 in the national capital. This decision for 6-day complete lockdown in Delhi comes after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal this morning.
All private offices will Work From Home and only government offices and essential services will be open, sources say.
The national capital of India was brought under curfew after the Covid-19 positivity rate touched 30% in Delhi. A positivity rate of nearly 30 per cent meant that almost every third sample being tested in the city was turning out positive. On Sunday, Delhi recorded the biggest jump in its daily Covid tally with 25,462 fresh cases.
Until now, the curfew was limited to weekend curfew to “break the chain of transmission” but continuing violations in parts of the city signalled that harsher steps were needed.
Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, the highest number of Covid-19 cases this year were recorded yesterday as the figure stood at 1526 cases. Also, a 60-year-old woman from Rakh Amb Tali in Samba died of COVID Pneumonia in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu tonight while 47-year-old man from Bypass Sidhra on the outskirts of Jammu succumbed to the virus at IVY Hospital Mohali. Two more COVID deaths were reported from Bahu Fort and Nanak Nagar areas of Jammu.
Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan are among the 10 states that account for 78.58 per cent of the new COVID-19 cases reported in a day in the country, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. The other states in the list of 10 are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
India”s daily cases continue to soar and a record single-day rise of 2,73,810 new coronavirus infections have been registered in a span of 24 hours. Ten states account for 85.11 per cent of the new deaths, the ministry said. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties (503) and Chhattisgarh follows with 170 daily deaths.
Ten states and UTs have not reported any COVID-19 deaths in a span of 24 hours. These are Ladakh (UT), Daman and Diu & Dadra and Nagar Haveli,Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram, Manipur, Lakshadweep, Nagaland, A&N Islands and Arunachal Pradesh. The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 12.38 crore as part of the world”s largest vaccination drive, the ministry said.
