Jammu, Dec 9: Eight persons who had damaged the recently inaugurated first-ever selfie-point here were arrested, police said on Wednesday.
The selfie-point with an installation — ‘I love Jammu’ — set up under Smart City Mission at B C Road was damaged by miscreants late Sunday night, prompting police to lodge an FIR to bring the culprits to book.
The selfie-point was inaugurated by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) Anvy Lavasa on October 29 and had become a major attraction for the local residents and tourists.
A police spokesman said all the eight accused were identified with the help of CCTV footage and subsequently arrested from their localities in Shaheedi Chowk and Bakshi Nagar.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 77/2021 under Sections 434 and 427 IPC and Section 3 of Prevention of Damage Public Property Act was registered at Police Station Bus Stand and investigation started.
After rigorous effort and on the basis of CCTV camera footage, one person was identified namely Abhishek Gill, son of Muntazir Gill of Christian Colony Shaheedi Chowk District Jammu and was arrested.
During investigation, Abhishek Gill disclosed the name of Nikhil Gill, son of Manga Gill of Bakshi Nagar Jammu who was also involved in the case and police team arrested him from his residence at Bakshi Nagar District Jammu.
During further investigation, the arrested persons disclosed the names of six more persons, who were identified as Goldy of Bakshi Nagar, Cristopher of Bakshi Nagar, Heaven of Christian Colony Bakshi Nagar, Vinay of Bakshi Nagar, Gabriel of Bakshi Nagar and Shubam of Bakshi Nagar. All these six persons were also arrested.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Bus Stand Inspector Deepankar Singh made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO City Sharad Kalu, SP City Mohita Sharma and SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli.
