New Delhi, Sep 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday assured the global community that India would help the world in developing and manufacturing vaccines against the Covid-19, reported India Today.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly through a pre-recorded message, PM Modi said being the world’s largest manufacturer of vaccines, India would like to assure the world that it will make available its facilities to help it come out of this pandemic.
“Today, I want to assure the global community that India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used to help all humanity in fighting this crisis,” PM Modi said in his address.
He also outlined that despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, India was able to provide essential medicines to more than 150 countries in the least several months. In his UNGA address, PM Modi also stressed upon the need of reforming the United Nations because its structure no longer represents the realities of the contemporary world.
Congratulating the world body and its member states on the UN’s 75th anniversary, PM Modi said while the UN has had several accomplishments, the world also needs to reflect on its shortcomings.
He said it is true that there has been no World War 3 since the formation of the UN in 1945, but there have been many wars, civil wars and terror attacks that have claimed lakhs of human lives. Several terrorist attacks shook the world and there have been bloodsheds. The people who lost their lives in these wars and attacks were human beings like you and me,” he said.
“Were the efforts of the United Nations sufficient during those times or these efforts adequate even today? The whole world is fighting the global pandemic of coronavirus for the last 8-9 months. Where is the United Nations in this joint fight against the pandemic? Where is its effective response?” PM Modi asked.
