After losing both arms to an electric shock in 2011, 22-year-old para-athlete Chandeep Singh from Jammu and Kashmir converted his disability into ability. After winning two gold medals for India in the Kimunyong Cup Taekwondo Championship in South Korea, he became the first Indian athlete to win a silver medal in Para-Taekwando World Championship.
He won the medal in the Men’s plus 80 kg event and the tournament concluded on 12 Dec. With the silver, Chandeep Singh became the only Para Athlete from J&K to achieve such a great place at the World platform. Chandeep is also a national-level skater and holds a world record for the fastest 100-meters para-skating in an impressive 13.95 seconds.
