With due reverence, we want to draw your kind attention towards the fact that we have been appointed as Lecturer Physical Education in Department Of youth services and sports / Technical Education vide Government order no 45 of edu (tech) of 206 dated 24/ 02 / 2016. We are appointed as Lecturers after clearing screening test followed by an interview conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission like all other Gazette posts. As per the recruitment rules framed by the Department and issued vide SRO no 415 dated 20/09/2013 the posts of Lecturer Physical Education has been placed in the pay band of 9300 – 34800 with grade pay of 4300. That lecturer in all other disciplines has pay band of 9300 – 34800 and grade pay of 5400 at the entry-level and only in our case i.e. Lecturer Physical Education the grade pay is 4300 instead of 5400.
The recruitment process for lecturer Physical Education and all other disciplines is the same and through the same recruiting agency i.e. Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission. The discipline of Physical Education is in no way inferior or less important than any other discipline. That the anomalous situation viz a viz the Grade pay is proving disadvantageous to us both monetarily and emotionally when our counterparts in other disciplines are treated more equally than us. We are teaching the same students under the same roof in the same class where our counterparts perform their job, and the higher number of student are enrolled in the subject of Physical Education as compared to other subjects. All other posts are at par with the Education Department, as the Physical Education Teacher, Master, Clerk, Peon all are working on the same pay scale as their counterparts in Education Department. Only in our case there is huge disparity, which is totally unfortunate.
We are happy to convey that Physical Education has emerged as the second-largest subject opted by the students after compulsory subject English, there are many subjects which have a mere roll in the class but unfortunately, these are still ahead of us in term of the pay scale,
In light of the above facts, we humbly request you to highlight our demand rectify this pay—anomaly by incorporating 5400 as the Grade pay for the post of lecturer physical education instead of existing 4300 to bring this post at par with the all other disciplines having similar rules/work profile. This would indeed give us a boost to work harder and with dignity and this is of course what justice demands.
